Henry is learning how to manage his feelings when he's frustrated. I've noticed lately that if I'm asking questions that bother him, instead of shrieking he'll say, "Let's talk about that later." These questions might be provoking him to evaluate his behavior ("Why did you do that?"), but they could also be totally benign and he's simply too tired or distracted to think ("What did you read at school today?"). Just now I got a pretty cute one.
H: Mom, look at this guy! He's parachuting.
M: Wow! Would you like to do that one day?
H: No. I'm afraid of heights.
M: What does that mean?
(Silence)
M: What does that mean, when you say you're afraid of heights?
H: Um, I dunno. Let's talk about that later.
