Labor Day weekend also happened to be the weekend of my 35th birthday, and we spent it in the mountains with the Kaplans! We were excited for the whole week leading up to it.
When we began planning, we looked for a cabin in a place halfway between our homes. Boone was that place, and guess what's near Boone? Tweetsie Railroad! Henry was super pumped to be seeing Noah and going to a train amusement park.
We arrived around noon on Saturday, with the Kaplans scheduled to arrive a few hours later. Right around the time we expected them to pull up, Kyle called to say they had broken down about an hour from the cabin! We felt terrible for them, but I must say, they didn't let the stress of the situation ruin their weekend. Keith found them and brought them back to the cabin, and we all enjoyed a low-key evening. The boys got a kick out of the pool table in the basement, played hide and seek, played with Noah's Magna-Tiles, and - of course - played with some trains. After the boys went to bed, the four of us enjoyed a quiet dinner and stayed up late talking and laughing.
Sunday morning Keith shuttled us to Tweetsie. What a beautiful day! The boys had the best time. (Ok, so did the adults.) Late in the afternoon, we came back to the cabin for relaxing and getting ready for dinner. Once again, the adults stayed up way too late. We just don't get enough time together. This quick trip was truly a gift.
Monday morning came too soon, but what a way to wake up! The Kaplans had a birthday banner strung across the kitchen, along with a beautiful painting Noah made for me. After breakfast Kelly and I walked with the boys down to a little creek and let them play; then, they had some snuggle time before we had to leave.

What a special weekend it was and always is when we get to spend time together. Noah still talks frequently about our time with you all and Tweetsie. Mwah!
